I used DMC white in size 30 thread and a bobbin filled shuttle (many times filled)

It blocked to 10 lovely inches.

Fun and still challenging for this self-taught shuttle tatter.

Tatting thread in the mail and knitting baby booties

 It felt like my birthday finding this in my mailbox!  Thank you, Diane, for sending me some Perfect Quilter Thread to try out.  You are so kind and generous!

As you can see, I'm tatting the Spinning Wheel and it's going to be gorgeous!

Kim sparked a knitting frenzy in me to knit these baby booties up.  These are knit with Dale Baby Ull in Inox US sz 0  double points.  I've got two pair finished.  I am going to do as Kim did and knit an I-Cord for the lacing's.  Mine will be cranked out on my Antique Circular Sock Machine.

Tatting and peas

 Ahh, the Occasional Doily in the process of being tatted with sz 10 thread.  I was afraid of using such a big shuttle but find I rather like it.  Did you know it holds about 210 yards of sz 10 thread?  Wow.

This is the one thing that is growing nicely.  The carrots, beets cukes, zucchini and onions are not doing what they are supposed to be doing.

Tatted Star Fish

I could not wait to show you this beautiful and quick piece of tatting!  Still need to hide a couple of ends and then block it but it was fun to do!

First time use of shuttle without a removable bobbin.  I also had to use one of my crochet hooks as my picots were too small for the tip to sneak in and bring the thread through.

Tatting ideas

Diane, Lace-Lovin' Librarian is a tatting friend that I've never met....yet, we encourage each other with tatting and even knitting through email and blogging.  

She and I both love the Spinning Wheel Glass Mat.  I told her I had the idea to use a green color for the chains and floral colors for the rings.  Well, Diane obviously has a nice stash of thread and came up with a gorgeous combination.  She's even knitting some tatting for her grand daughter.  :)

I had some blue and white in sz 40 thread.  This little beauty is 4 inches wide unblocked.  You can really see the direction of travel!

PS:  Notice that the camera made the ruler look curved!

Chicken Soup, Tatting and something else

 My mom worked as the Head Cook for a lady, and her family, in England over 70 years ago.  She is considered a gourmet cook and taught me to cook like her.

Nothing goes better with this soup than Sage Dumplings.  Yum.

 This Glass Mat Spinning Wheel finished at 5 inches.  I used sz 20 Lizbeth thread in...black and I want to make many more of this lovely design by Mary Konior.

 We should all hold hands like this......

Now I wonder what I'm going to be making out of those letters, that apostrophe and the fabric peeking out underneath them....;)

Tatting is fun!

 I've been a little busy with tatting this and tatting that..........

 The doily (sz 30 thread) on the right isn't laying flat....because my thought of 1/4" thread spacing isn't what the ruler says.  I will have to tat it over again.

The square motif is tatted with sz 20 thread and isn't finished yet.

 Ahh, yes, [with the help of Sharon Briggs website] my first tatted wild rose (sz 20 thread).....love it!

Using sz 20 thread, I tatted a few chain links and then moved on to Marliee Rockley's earrings from April 2012 Bead & Button Magazine.

Shuttle tatting....

Testing my skills with a 1930's pattern, size 30 DMC Cebelia thread and my Aero Shuttle.  I wrote the pattern down so it would be easier for me to know where I was at....one ring or chain at a time.

This could be placed on a collar or cuff or whatever you want!

and WaLa!

Oh, I love this doily.  I used what the pattern suggested, sz 100 thread (DMC Cordonnet) and US sz 000 needles.  It finished up at 25" x 17".
Now what will I start next?  ;o)

Herbert Niebling knitted lace never looked better

The title says it all....when you have beautiful stitch markers by Marilyn.  I only used 3 of one set and one green (to mark the beginning of the round) even though there were 8 repeats to start.  You end up with 32 repeats at the end.

This is one of many from "Knitted Lace Designs of Herbert Niebling".  A picture of it is on page 48 and the charted pattern on pages 50-51.

I used #30 DMC Cebelia Crochet Thread with US sz 0 circular needles. 

This lovely knitted lace traveled with me to Canada on Holiday with Julie and caused many a conversation on the Clipper!

I'm wild about the Wild Rose Scallop Doily!

I used DMC Cebelia sz 30 in light pink and light green with US sz 10 hook and ended up 11 inches in diameter.

My finish (the pink edging) is not 'exactly' what the pattern called for...but I just could not 'get it'.  I did what I could figure out.

This pattern was one of the choices on the DOM.  It was not picked but I couldn't help myself and just HAD to crochet it.

Loves Me, Loves Me Not.....

....this crocheted doily was a rewarding one since I made it for one of our neighbors down the road.....a nice retired couple.

In my Decorative Crochet-March 1999 - Number 68, it is pattern #19.  I used size 20 Aunt Lydia's Fine Crochet Thread and US sz 8 crochet hook to make it the size it came out to be...14.75 inches wide.

I can't WAIT to give it to them on Thursday!

My Jennifer Doily....

....is 9 1/2" wide from point to point.

I knitted her in two days using sz 30 cotton thread and US sz 000 needles.  The pattern can be found in "Knitted Heirloom Lace III" by Gloria Penning. 

Lace, in all manner, is beautiful.  Even if we think we cannot do it, we try....and then we have a masterpiece like the Jennifer Doily.  It's just keeping track of where you are in the pattern.....just knits, yo's, k2tog's, ssk's'/SKP.........that's all.  It's actually easier than knitting a sweater because this doesn't have to fit you.  :o)

I'm in a spiral...

...and knitting round and round until I knit it big enough to fit inside an Oval Doily of Christine Duchrow. 

Using sz 30 thread and US sz 1 needles, this doily is knit from the outside to the middle.  Stop.  Start the spiral from the center (as in the picture) to the middle.  Stop.  Then marry the two together.

I look forward to posting the completed doily.  It's been quite a challenge since I know only a little written German.  Ha!  I would have to pick the most complicated pattern from her three volumes.

I crocheted a Tulip Doily

This pattern link can be found at Doily-Of-The-Month.  It's the May 2011 Member's Choice.  We all get a bunch to vote on every month and that is the one most of us wanted to crochet.
I just now noticed that this doily grew to be 20" in diameter! 
The materials I used were sz 10 Royale Crochet Thread in Cream and a US sz 8 hook.

So, I was looking at it and thought maybe it could use some color.  Maybe purple tulips with green leaves?  Does anyone else have an opinion?  I'd love to hear!

Feb 2011 DOM

What is a DOM?  It's Doily of the Month and you can find the link to the pattern there.
This 6" doily was made with Aunt Lydia Extra Fine Crochet Thread in US sz 30 and my trusty US sz 11/12 crochet hook.  The hook really does have that size beat into it!  Must be old.
There's nothing like a blocked doily to bring out all the beauty it deserves.  If I had a Like button, I'd like it myself!

Tatting the Daffodil Doily....

....has been quite an experience for this inexperienced shuttle tatter!
The thread I used was Manuela Color by Stahl Wolle.  I believe it is a sz 10 thread.  I first thought the thread was dirty until I looked at it in better lighting.  The color is variegated and SO subtle....
My, oh, my!  I wanted to have a knotless doily.  Well, I got that by learning to make a split chain AND split ring by Linda Davies YouTube video.  She does such a beautiful job showing you how. 
I have the booklet "Learn to Tat" with interactive dvd by Janette Baker.
The pattern, in my copy, had several errors and omissions for this pattern.  I contacted Ms. Baker to let her know and she graciously gave me a link to a pdf file with the correction on her website.  It's here.
I finished this piece today [picture was taken a few days ago] and I decided to leave it as is with the extra ring.  *sigh*
All in all -- I learned a great deal and am feeling more confident to work on other pieces and learn even more techniques.
Once I get this blocked, I'll post a finished photo.
