I knit them in the round and added a shoulder opening so they would go over their heads but still keep the V-neck close to the body.

Both vests were knit with superwash worsted weight wool.

A crocheted doily and a Herbert Niebling doily

 You, too, can crochet this doily.  It is the July Member's Choice at DOM and

is FREE.

I used sz 10 crochet thread and US sz 4 hook.

This beautiful doily was designed by Glenda Hunt and can be purchased at DoilyHead's Blog.

I test knit this twice because I knit it with sz 10 crochet thread the first time and was 

reminded it needed to be with larger thread for the size of a baby blanket.  

It was a wonderful knit and there are no errors.  :)

Bibs. Will they stand the test?

Check out these infant bibs I made as a request from my beautiful DIL.

 The Fronts of the Fantastic Four.

I used some wonderful 100% cotton fabrics.

 The Backs of the same Fantastic Four.

The backs are waterproof and 100% Nylon.

In the middle is some prewashed double-sided flannel.

 Here, my grandson, Joey, is wondering if these will rip off as easily as the velcro ones.

Mom and Dad laughed as Joey tried with all his might.

The face of defeat says it all....the bib won't budge with those snap closures.

Tatting and peas

 Ahh, the Occasional Doily in the process of being tatted with sz 10 thread.  I was afraid of using such a big shuttle but find I rather like it.  Did you know it holds about 210 yards of sz 10 thread?  Wow.

This is the one thing that is growing nicely.  The carrots, beets cukes, zucchini and onions are not doing what they are supposed to be doing.

A Market Bag

I made this bag at Billie's Designer Fabrics and I was one of three in the 2nd class.  It's made of oilcloth and finished at 15 1/2" tall, 13 1/2" wide, and 7" deep.  I got enough fabric to make two more because a gal can never have enough market bags!

The accents are a ruffly poly scarf (knit by mwah) and a cup of cocoa (made by mwah because of Chris and Denise).

Chicken Soup, Tatting and something else

 My mom worked as the Head Cook for a lady, and her family, in England over 70 years ago.  She is considered a gourmet cook and taught me to cook like her.

Nothing goes better with this soup than Sage Dumplings.  Yum.

 This Glass Mat Spinning Wheel finished at 5 inches.  I used sz 20 Lizbeth thread in...black and I want to make many more of this lovely design by Mary Konior.

 We should all hold hands like this......

Now I wonder what I'm going to be making out of those letters, that apostrophe and the fabric peeking out underneath them....;)

You, too....can Make It With Wool

 I chose a pattern from the January 2009 issue of Creative Knitting.  It is called Cables & Lace Tunic and is designed by Susan Shildmyer.  Ms. Shildmyer can also be found on Ravelry.  

While knitting this lovely tunic, with 100% Donegal Tweed wool by Tahki, I decided to leave the pockets out and make the 4-stitch cable twist in the opposite direction on either side of the large centered gorgeous cable.  I was able to complete the tunic in 8 days with a little over 8 hanks.

And.  Here I am.  This was taken in Yakima, WA at the Make It With Wool State competition.  I placed 1st in District in my age category, went to compete in State and placed 3rd out of 6.  The winners will go to the National Competition in San Antonio, TX in January 2013.

I had the best of time.....meeting the other contestants and getting to tell some of my stories to people who haven't heard them yet!

Knitting Delight

Literally.  Knitting Delight's yahoo group is in German but the KAL's and Mystery Knits are posted in 5 (yes, five) different languages.  Once those are over, the files are up for a bit longer and then gone.  The patterns can be purchased, though.  This stole is called Summer Queen.

This was a KAL as Cardigan Malibu.  I made mine a V-neck pullover with shorter sleeves and a collar.

A knitted coin purse for me

This is knit with Berroco Bluefaced Leicester in a beautiful eggplant color from a pattern in Piecework magazine.
It finished up at 5" wide by 4" tall.
I even lined it and put a zipper in.  There is a first for everything!

Suncatcher by Nancy Tracey

A little time to shuttle tat.  I used size 10 crochet thread.....and I'm a beginner who is self taught.

This is a really nice design by Nancy Tracey.  She has a monthly newsletter, too.

A new wallet in town....

 .....for my son.  The choice was Houndstooth.  

I found it in an upholstery fabric.

The inside was made with linen.

 I like it and what's MORE important is my son loves it!

Making things, instead of buying things

Made this years ago at a Super Saturday.  If you are LDS, you know how much fun those are.

This Ascot (by E.V. Zygas) from Knitter's Magazine, Summer 2010 K99 page 77,

is a gift to my mom.

I used Plassard Meri-Cash8 in color 155 and pink ribbon for the trim.

Two of the saddest things I know......

.....when my needles finished the last round of knitted lace on this delightful-to-knit Herbert Niebling design,

.......and when my spoon got to the bottom of this super delicious Bengal Chutney made by Julie.

The title says it all....when you have beautiful stitch markers by Marilyn.  I only used 3 of one set and one green (to mark the beginning of the round) even though there were 8 repeats to start.  You end up with 32 repeats at the end.

This is one of many from "Knitted Lace Designs of Herbert Niebling".  A picture of it is on page 48 and the charted pattern on pages 50-51.

I used #30 DMC Cebelia Crochet Thread with US sz 0 circular needles. 

This lovely knitted lace traveled with me to Canada on Holiday with Julie and caused many a conversation on the Clipper!

I'm wild about the Wild Rose Scallop Doily!

I used DMC Cebelia sz 30 in light pink and light green with US sz 10 hook and ended up 11 inches in diameter.

My finish (the pink edging) is not 'exactly' what the pattern called for...but I just could not 'get it'.  I did what I could figure out.

This pattern was one of the choices on the DOM.  It was not picked but I couldn't help myself and just HAD to crochet it.

Loves Me, Loves Me Not.....

....this crocheted doily was a rewarding one since I made it for one of our neighbors down the road.....a nice retired couple.

In my Decorative Crochet-March 1999 - Number 68, it is pattern #19.  I used size 20 Aunt Lydia's Fine Crochet Thread and US sz 8 crochet hook to make it the size it came out to be...14.75 inches wide.

I can't WAIT to give it to them on Thursday!

Secluded Copse Shawl

by Lost City Knits is one stunning piece of art.  I was a lucky, lucky gal to test knit this shawl.
It's light and airy even with the jumper-weight wool I used.  I will, more than likely, knit this again using the same fiber Denise used....wool and silk.

The charts are easy to read and should you ever have any questions/comments, Denise is just an e-mail away.  So, if you would like your own copy of this non boring pattern, head on over to Lost City Knits.

I think I get along with lace knitting.  :0)

My Jennifer Doily....

....is 9 1/2" wide from point to point.

I knitted her in two days using sz 30 cotton thread and US sz 000 needles.  The pattern can be found in "Knitted Heirloom Lace III" by Gloria Penning. 

Lace, in all manner, is beautiful.  Even if we think we cannot do it, we try....and then we have a masterpiece like the Jennifer Doily.  It's just keeping track of where you are in the pattern.....just knits, yo's, k2tog's, ssk's'/SKP.........that's all.  It's actually easier than knitting a sweater because this doesn't have to fit you.  :o)

Summer Queen Stole - clue 1 finished.....

....in 2 days!  Is that quick, you ask?  Here's the math:  Crochet cast-on 237 stitches and knit 40 rounds.  All the even numbered rounds were plain knit and I'm a little lazy about turning my work around so I knit back backwards.  Besides, I like to look at the right side....where I can see if I missed (or added) a yarn over (yo).  When I knit lace, that's where I "might" mess up.  Hmmm, how do I know that?  ;o)

I am going to get busy knitting on clue 2 tonight because Birgit is going to release clue 3 very soon!  She is quite the designer.  I'm very impressed with her work.
