Looks something like what my Na (grandmother) would have called a candle mat. she was born in the 1886 and all her sisters did various types of hand work. She was the only one who didn't because she had "weak" eyes because she had scarlet fever when she was young. I have a number of crocheted and tatted item that my great aunts made. Some I still use.
That is hanky edging for a bride's handkerchief. I'm pretty sure I have the pattern. I have several books of crocheted hanky edging patterns. I will post it on my blog if you are interested. It's worked in motifs joined as you go. Worked with tatting thread.
I am my mother's daughter. She taught me how to knit, ride a horse, love and enjoy the unique characteristics of all living things, shoot a .22 rifle, drive a car, cook, be kind to people (if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all), sing, and country dance.
Back to knitting...I dream, think, read and talk knitting.
I knit every day.
"There are few things as rewarding as having someone comment on your blog. You have to think about it, knit it, write it, take the pictures, upload it...so when someone says something nice, it's an automatic pat on the back!" Fleegle
I don't know what it is, but it sure is pretty! Maybe it's a fichu?
ReplyDeleteTruly eye candy! Some beautiful work. Too bad it doesn't come with a known history. In surprisingly good shape, too!
