Longies are finished!

They're done and just in the nick of time! It's getting so cold and they are - oh, so warm, but not too warm - just right.
The pattern is called Nether Garments in "Knitter's Almanac" by Elizabeth Zimmermann.I knit them with US sz 6 needles and flew through the Non-Pithy directions. :)
Will I make another pair?
Yes.
I am waiting for my order from School House Press. The yarn of choice is Canadian Regal (a very close substitute for 'fisherman' wool). This time I will cast on more stitches at the ankle to incorporate a tapered look on the sides. Oh, I can't wait!
My wool order also includes Sheepsdown to knit the 'Hurry-Up Sweater' for my son. That, too, is in the same book.
Once you have the book, you can join the group, Elizabeth's Year, that finally encouraged me to finally start knitting from it.

  1. You're tempting me to get some of that Berroco Ultra Alpaca for a set of Nether Garments...have been thinking all season how they'd be really comfy this winter!

  2. Amazing. I'm dying for a pair, but wonder if I could ever finish them? I'm not the speediest knitter. Loaned out my copy of the Almanac and it never came back.

My favorite item I've made from that book is the Heart Hat, to fit me, in Icelandic wool, cream and brown.

  3. Maria, those leggings are beautiful. Good for you! I have silk long underwear otherwise I would be tempted to do some of those after the war.

  4. I'm actually looking for help on the longies pattern--I'm a bit confused by the hip shaping. If I increase on each side of the 3sts I've marked at center-back & center-front, I'm increasing 4sts every 3 rows.

Then she says to knit even when I reach 126 sts--but 126-84=42, which is 10 1/2 increases? How does that work? And am I really working 30+ more rounds before splitting for the legs?

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

  5. Hi Annie,
I made the Adult version and it was knit from the ankle up. I'm guessing you are knitting the baby longies.
