Tatting practice

I'm only a beginner and have only tatted with one shuttle.
I decided to tackle [with the help of Here-Be-Tatters] a two shuttle pattern.
Well, I was happily tatting along wondering why the first ring was flopping around. I looked at the pattern again and decided to stop because I was supposed to join the last and first ring picots together. I'm still laughing at myself, but I DID IT!!!

I will start this again but will join the rings together...

This reminds me of my first quilt, I can see where I first started hand-stitching [uneven] to where I finished with nice, even little stitches.
This, piece of tatting, will go in my practice book.
By the way, the pattern is FREE and can be downloaded from here.

  1. I've done the same thing! Luckily, I have a sense of humor when it comes to my own mistakes! I love the pattern, and I'll definitely check it out.

  2. I'm not sure if my comment went through or not... love the pattern, and I love that you can laugh at your own mistakes. Laughter has been the secret to my success in tatting! ; )

  4. Congratulations..your tatting looks good to me..I just admire everyone who can do this work. You must be glad you persevered...although sometimes a misread pattern can lead to a whole new stitch invention.

  5. It looks good to me, too. I just recently picked up my grandmother's shuttle again for the first time in about two decades or more. I didn't get anything nearly as photogenic as your practice piece! Good work!
